Bringing Home the Metal

Aloha my friends!  Summer is in full gear and we are back into our usual groove after a couple months of intense preparation for what culminated in an amazing experience in Anchorage at the Cannabis Classic.  It was very fun to be able to meet and converse with those who have also been working hard to make the cannabis industry a reality in the state of Alaska just as we have.  In a sense it was a celebration of how far we have all came together since the day the people of our state decided retail cannabis should be legal.  At the event we got to step outside of our normal setting and show the rest of the industry how much passion we put into our natural cultivation and normalizing the sale of marijuana while also seeing what others have to offer.  We also had the pleasure of meeting consumers outside of our direct market to introduce them to our products such as Pakalolo Palms and The Incredible Edible Kit.  Prior to the event we were able to get those specific products to AK Fireweed, a retail cannabis store in Anchorage, so those who were interested in Pakalolo Supply Co. products at the convention had the convenient pleasure of being able to drive down the street to 4th Ave and make the purchase.  This gave them the opportunity to really get to know our products.

Conventions, celebrations and trade-shows are all vital for the long term success of the industry and the Cannabis Classic was a great start to many more opportunities to engage with consumers and other businesses.  It allows for these connections, important to a successful business, to be made while celebrating each others hard work and successes. Speaking of successes, we aren’t shy to say we had a few of our own at the Cannabis Classic!

The award show got off to a great start as someone dear to us got to be the first to walk up on stage and accept a trophy.  For that reason we would also like to give a very special shout out to Sarah Dubowski.  She kept her ear close the the industry throughout the the process of legalization and reported the stories most valuable to the public.  She worked very hard to keep the town of Fairbanks informed of anything that had to do with the emerging cannabis industry and she did it with style.  Her reporting, broadcasting and video features are some of the best in the state and for those reasons, and many more, she brought home Best Cannabis Reporter in Alaska! We are incredibly happy for her and proud to call her a part of the PSC ‘Ohana. Congratulations Sarah!

From that point the night only got better.  Thanks to our die hard patrons we were able to bring home two more of the public poll voted trophies to Fairbanks to help cement our home town as the cannabis capital of Alaska.  The first award PSC won was Best Packaging and Design, which is something that we put a ton of thought into over the last 8 months.  We have always wanted our packaging and design to stand out from the rest and we think we have accomplished that in a number of ways.  For example, when someone pulls out a green pop-top container and you hear that familiar pop sound followed by a pungent, delicious smell, without thinking twice you know they stopped by Pakalolo Supply Company.   If its your buddies birthday and someone busts out a glass tube with a palm leaf blunt inside to celebrate the moment, then you know without a doubt that he/she has a one of a kind Pakalolo Palm.

That was our intention and we are so pleased that you noticed because branding is important in any new industry for a number of reasons.  You need to set your self a part aesthetically from the business next door but more importantly we want to give a little something extra to our customers. For instance, a reusable glass tube with a cork stopper from picking up some Palms or a box with a magnetic closure and some stickers from taking home the Edible Kit, or even just more info then the next store.  You will know more about the strain you are buying by reading the “Pakalolo Grown” strain cards we have began attaching to our pop-tops.  These cards have additional information about the strain including lineage and terpene results.

These small extras give our products a quality feel which helps push our goal of normalizing this industry by making the customers feel good about their purchase.  We don’t want to sell you weed in a plastic (mylar) bags, smashing the buds, like its still the black market because that defeats the purpose. We care immensely about the product we put in it, so we ought to take care in choosing what we put it in, right?  We will continue to push the envelope in the packaging and design department to ensure that you feel confident and excited about buying our products.  Again, we sincerely appreciate the time that you took each day to vote for Pakalolo Supply Company.  We are both grateful and honored to be on your minds and we cannot stress that enough. MAHALO!

Best Branding Award Photo

But we weren’t done yet! The next award we brought home was that which took the metaphorical cake…

Drum roll please……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

Award Winning Pakalolo Crew

We feel this award encompasses all the employees at PSC and every single little thing that we put work into as one badass, well-oiled cannabis cultivating, product pushing machine. The Hollister’s have dedicated the last 3 years of their lives building a company from the ground up in the uncharted cannabis industry.  After building the foundation they brought together a team, which really feels more like an ‘Ohana (family), that all carry a passion for cannabis from their pasts.  While the Hollister’s continue to pave the way in the industry and make connections, as well as directing, upgrading and expanding the company, the Pakalolo ‘Ohana is constantly growing and grinding to fulfill the growing lists of duties involved in running the first legal cannabis cultivation company and retail store in our great State of Alaska.  It starts with the research, technique and labor that the cultivation team provides who then eventually hands the cured flower over to the attention-devoted weighing, rolling and packaging team who also transitions into the knowledgeable and friendly budtending staff when the doors open.  They will help our patrons choose from our well designed and innovative products that you can only get at PSC… BOOYAH!  We have been recognized for the way we did it and we are more than proud.  We are honored and grateful to everyone of you who have supported us in a plethora of ways.  We literally could NOT have won either of these awards without you…

We also entered a number of strains into the actual flower competition and we did alright if I do say so myself.  Our beloved signature strain Mauna Kea White Fire OG is now an award winning strain! Here are the over all results from the competition:

As you can see in the “Overall Scores” above, all 4 strains we entered – Mauna Kea Whitefire OG, Alaskan Blueberry, Pele Fire OG and Aloha CBD – finished in the top 10 (actually, the top 9!) with scores given by judges.  It should also be noted the participating judges were not given any information about the strains including the strains’ names, test results or who it was grown by.  This ensures that no favorites are obvious, whether it be strains or growers.  With those safeguards in place we placed second in each of the 3 categories and third place in one of those as well:

2nd Place Hybrid: Mauna Kea WFOG

2nd Place Sativa: AK Blueberry

2nd Place Indica: Pele Fire OG

3rd Place Indica: Aloha CBD

We would like to congratulate those that took first place in each category.  You all brought some great strains to the table and it was a pleasure to be able to compete and push each other to cultivate better cannabis.  But watch out for us next year because we are coming for that gold medal! Still, We are incredibly happy with our scores as they reaffirm our all-natural cultivation techniques do in fact result in our cannabis becoming the best smelling, looking and tasting bud in the state of AK. We hope they also reaffirms your beliefs that Pakalolo Supply Company is the best place place to be purchasing your legal cannabis in the entire state. After all, we did win Best Cannabis Store in AK 😉

In case you were unaware, we have once again expanded our hours and are now open 6 days/week Monday through Saturday.  We are on a 1pm to 8pm schedule on weekdays while opening 1 hour earlier at noon on Saturdays.  Looking at our product selection this week we have replenished our edible supply with MoMo’s Cannachews, Butterscotch Brownies and Lemon Dreams. Coincidentally, Einstein Labs also dropped off some edibles…. LEAFCHEWS!

Leafchews are premium distillate hash oil infused fruit chews.  They are comparable to Starbursts in form and available in the two flavors pictured above.  Each package comes with 10 chews @ 5mg of THC per chew for the low price of $45.

The Incredible Edible Kits are now only $99 with tax! A kit that allows you to bake 15 cannabis infused Hawaiian Hula Cookies which is great value.  If you like edibles, and you like baking, then I’m telling you, this product is for you. As for flower, we will also be getting test results back from Steep Hill Labs this week for our Pakalolo Grown strains which means you will be seeing them in our store soon after (My guess is at least one of them this weekend).   Its always exciting waiting on new results for our own flower as we push our plants for higher terpene content using our natural grow techniques.  Like anyone, we like to beat our previous records with higher numbers, especially since we are the terpene record holder in Alaska as of now. We also have Alaska Cannabis Cultivators Alien Rift and Snow White back on the shelves.  We hope to see you all this week.  Once again, Mahalo for your support throughout the Cannabis Classic as we could NOT have done it with out you. It cannot be expressed enough! Aloha.

Cannabis Classic Fast Approaching

Last day to Cast Your Votes!

Greetings PakaBloggers, it has been far too long since the last time we updated you all. Things have been especially intense that last few weeks as we have expanded our hours to 5 days a week while simultaneously trying to ramp up for the Cannabis Classic down in Anchorage on May 20. The busier we get the faster time flies by and today marks the last day of Cannabis Classic voting already!  We would appreciate any last minute votes that you can put in either at or at our store where we have a ballot box.  You can actually do both if you are feeling really ambitious! In all honesty,  thanks to you, our Fairbanks fans, family and friends (good F words) we have a very good chance of bringing home some awards to Fairbanks to make the Golden Heart the cannabis capital!  Not only that, but these awards will sincerely mean a great deal to all the hardworking individuals employed here at Pakalolo Supply Co. that have been committed to our ongoing mission to normalize the sale of cannabis going into the future.  We are excited to see what that future holds and the Cannabis Classic is a little preview of what this industry has to offer.

People from all over the state, inside and outside of the industry, will be there to learn/teach, make connections, get irie, and celebrate legal cannabis in Alaska!  We want our Fairbanks family and friends to be there as well filling the place with familiar faces, representing Fairbanks and Pakalolo Supply Company.  Right now tickets are buy 1, get 1 free at the Cannabis Classic website usin promo code: PRESS17  so if you are thinking about going (c’mon, you know you are) now is the time to get your tickets! You will not be disappointed when you see our “Presenting Sponsor” booth right in front of the Dena’ina center.  Our banners will be lighting the place up and we will be educating with presentations and slideshows, previewing our products and handing out and selling gear and accessories.  We will have our cannabis products in two of the local shops in Anchorage so if you like what you see at the event, you can go pick it up at one or more of the nearby retail shops… Details about our drops in Anchorage will be coming later.

Cannabis Classic Ballots Now Open!

Visit to vote now!

Aloha PakaBloggers! We have now moved passed the nomination period and into official voting for the Cannabis Classic awards to be presented May 20 down in Anchorage, AK.  Since that is the case we wanted to dive into more detail about what exactly the Cannabis Classic is and how Pakalolo Supply Company will be participating in this awesome event.  Lets start out by giving you the official description found on their website at

“The Cannabis Classic is the premiere blind-tasting, consumer-judged US cannabis competition.  The Cannabis Classic was created to provide a platform for cannabis breeders and growers to gain the due and proper recognition they deserve for their hard work, skills and talent.  The goal with enlisting consumers as judges was to bring the people who regularly consumer these products together to decide which products deserve this prestigious recognition. We set out to create a fair competition by enlisting judges from all demographics, conceiving an event that cuts to the core of public opinion as a starting point, rather than an afterthought, in branding and product development.”

Just reading that puts a smile on my face thinking to myself, “We are in a weed competition in Alaska!”  It doesn’t get much cooler than that.  But it does, because this is more than just a competition.  It’s a celebration.  We are now about half of a year past the first legal cannabis sale in Alaska (which was here at PSC on 10/28!) and we get to celebrate all the hard work of individuals and companies have already accomplished by dedicating their life to cannabis after a lifetime of it being very illegal.  Other schedule 1 drugs include heroin and bath salts and share the characteristic that they have zero medical potential.  If you are reading the PakaBlog right now then you know that putting marijuana in that classification is, for the lack of a better term, asinine (maybe even asiten).

We have come a long way since that classification was made and our mission of fighting that nonsense by normalizing the sale and consumption of cannabis involves participating in events like the Cannabis Classic. That’s why we decided to be the “Presenting Sponsor” which is why our beautiful logo can be seen smack dab in the middle of their new banner pictured above.  Those behind the scenes of the Cannabis Classic have been working diligently for two years since cannabis was legalized in Alaska to make this the premier marijuana event in Alaska. We appreciate their determination and faith in the industry as we have had and for that reason we are going all out at the Cannabis Classic and we want to involve our patrons as much as possible.  We will be updating the PakaBlog regularly with news going forward as well as lighting up the social media lines with pics and info tidbits.  However, we still have plenty to get into today!

As the presenting sponsor we are going to be rolling deep with our entire team and will be involved in and sponsoring every event at the Cannabis Classic. We will have the feature booth bringing the aloha, sharing our mission and goals for the future,  showcasing our product lineup, making connections and handing out swag such as shirts and stickers like the one above.  We want to be spreading the aloha spirit across our state while also politely and intelligently showing that Fairbanks, The Golden Heart City, is also the heart of the new cannabis industry in Alaska.  Our growers will be presenting at the educational seminar talking about our natural growing methods, KNF practices and no-till farming techniques.  We will also cover terpenes, the compounds that give our cannabis its onolicious smell and taste, and how they raise marijuana to a whole new grade of quality in appearance, smell and taste.  We will be present at every event going related to the Cannabis classic and are looking forward to meeting others in the industry to learn as much as possible. A few of our signature strains will be entered into the contest and we will see if we have what it takes for the judges to agree that we have the best marijuana in the state! While we are representing Fairbanks and the industry down at the Classic, we will likely have one Saturday (May 20th) here in Fairbanks with closed doors or a skeleton crew manning the shop.  If you won’t be down there make sure to stock up on Friday for the weekend.  If you are considering the trip down to Anchorage to check out everything the event and the Alaskan cannabis industry has to offer, then you will:  A. undoubtedly run into the Pakalolo team at Cannabis Classic events, and B. be able to find different Pakalolo products in select stores in the Anchorage area for the weekend!

At its heart this Cannabis Classic has a purpose to bring the industry together to make connections, learn and promote cannabis business.  However, the driving force to make it actually happen with a big turn out is the competition.  The chance to be recognized as the best in all of Alaska’s Cannabis industry will bring almost every related business to the event and following will be all the people who love to support this industry and want to have their say in voting for their favorites.  The voting is done by the consumers so it really shows which business has really impressed the public so get out and vote! And don’t forget you can vote once a day!  It’s really a brilliant idea so once again cheers to the Cannabis Classic and their hard work.

Here are the numerous awards that can be voted for at

Big mahalos to our awesome patrons, we have been nominated for every award applicable in this years Cannabis Classic Industry Awards Apparently some of you were even thinking about yours truly when you voted for nominees because the PakaBlog was even nominated for the Best Cannabis Reporter.  I was pleasantly surprised and from everyone here we are sincerely grateful for the support you have shown to our company with nominating us for a number of awards… THANK YOU SO MUCH!  Let’s talk a little bit about the specific nominations.

Best Cannabis Store of the Year

Starting off we are nominated for Best Cannabis store of the year which is our most desired award.  As our main goal being to normalize the industry, we have put a lot of work into creating a friendly, safe, comfortable and educational environment for our customers to come to and confidently purchase marijuana 100% legally.  Our store is roomy and well lit.  There are 4 registers and budtenders at any given time to eliminate any long waiting.  We have high definition flat screens displaying our menu so if you end up having a short wait at our peak hours you can be looking at what we have available for you before you get up to the register.  Once you do get to the register there is a physical menu and our budtenders are very knowledgeable and eager to help with any questions or concerns you might have.  We have display cases with smell jars, pipes, bongs, vaporizers, rolling papers, wraps, apparel and more.  We have been putting a lot of work into making our packaging have a consumer feel with our pop tops and some of our new products which I will touch on here shortly.   We haven’t taken any shortcuts in our cultivation either as we use Korean natural farming methods and no-till farming giving our flower the highest terpenes (flavor and aroma) in Alaska.  If you agree help us get this award by voting every day for Pakalolo Supply Company at  Let’s try to bring that trophy home to Fairbanks!

Many of you have met and even become acquainted with our budtenders here at PSC. They are all fantastic people and I’m very happy to now call them my friends.  Here are small profiles on each of our budtenders that got nominated for Best Budtender:

Now that you’ve learned a little more about the budtending team here at Pakalolo, you can go vote for our all star staff daily at

Best Packaging and Design

As I mentioned before our product design and packaging is something we really put a lot of thought into.  We are constantly thinking about how to present something in a way that makes it exciting, convenient and fun to purchase.  While the majority of the cannabis for sale in Alaska is packaged in the same super cheap and quickly thrown in the trash mylar bags,  Here at Pakalolo, the way you receive your final product matters to us and we just couldn’t let your buds get mangled like that.  That led us to our pop tops! The pop tops are colorful and fun but more importantly they are very durable and can be recycled here at the front entrance at Pakalolo!  For that matter, all of our packaging is recyclable.  You don’t want to hang on to those new glass tubes from the Maninis or Palms, or your even the box from the edibles kit, bring it back to us on your next visit and we’ll handle it for you instead of letting it fill up a dumpster!  We put a lot of thought into this and are really excited that we were nominated for Best Packaging and Design. We hope that we’ve earned your vote in this category as well.

Best Retail Product

Once again we are incredibly honored by each and every one of your nominations and so stoked to have received multiple nominations for Cannabis Classic Product of the Year.  The nominations are for our, Mauna Kea (strain), Shiva Sativa (strain), Pakalolo Palms, Supajoints, and The Incredible Edible Kit.

The Incredible Edible Kit, an all inclusive kit for making your own delicious Hawaiian flavored infused cookies.  The kit comes with the needed items that can help you successfully make you 12-18 cannabis infused Hawaiian cookies at your desired potency at a fantastic value.  So far the legal market has really lacked quality and distribution in the edibles realm.  Typically we’ve seen that a cookie/brownie/etc. is going to run you around $25-35 at a retail store.  The Incredible Edible Kit, at $125, will get you much more for a lower price per cookie.  You also have the ability to make some now/some later, dial in the potency to exactly how YOU want it, rather that what the regulations allow for premade edibles. The box is perfect for putting the finished cookies back in to give as a gift, as it is high quality, durable, pretty, and has a magnetic closure flap (what cool packaging, they should get an award for that 😉 )

Another Pakalolo Supply Co. item that has earned a nomination for product of the year is our Pakalolo Palms.  A one of a kind product, available exclusively Pakalolo Supply Co. Pakalolo Palms are pre-rolled, pre filled palm leaf wraps that are actually real palm tree leaves with a corn cob crutch in the mouth piece that spreads, smooths and cools the smoke as you inhale.  They don’t have any tobacco taste like regular cigars so you can truly taste the Pakalolo grown, craft cannabis that is hand packed inside each Pakalolo Palm.  The palm leaf wraps are grown organically and are 100% tobacco and chemical free, just like our cannabis, leaving you with the tastiest, smoothest, most luxurious cannabis cigar you can find anywhere.  The cigar itself is unique but so is the way we package it in a glass test tube so you can see the beauty of these babies, with a cork stopper to seal in the freshness and its own logo that further matches our Hawaiian spirit.  We absolutely love them and are confident that if you haven’t tried one and fallen in love yet, you will soon!

Many of you are familiar with our SupaJoint line up including the original SupaJoints, that will start to be called Big Kahuna’s and now the new Manini joints (tiny two packs) that are also packaged in smaller reusable glass test tubes with cork stoppers.  We are adding a new team member to the SupaJoint lineup that will release this Saturday and we think it is gonna knock it out of the park (It’s finally baseball season)!  This is the most practical and normalizing product we have thought up yet.  Introducing the Supa Sidekick Sixpack!  A child safe plastic container that looks similar to those old school metal cigarette cases with 6 medium sized SupaJoints inside it.  Chances are you will keep it right by your side hence the name SupaSidekick, not to mention every SupaHero needs a sidekick.  We feel like this is absolutely perfect for summertime in Alaska! They are perfect for taking with you on a long hike, fishing trip, golf course, hunting….I could go on and on and on but I think you get my drift.  mini logo 4

If you enjoy any of these products please go show us your support at by casting your votes for Pakalolo Supply Company, Pakalolo budtenders, Pakalolo Packaging and Pakalolo Products.  We also have many of our flagship strains such as Mauna Kea White Fire OG and Shiva on the Best Product list so if you are more of a straight flower person you can still vote!

We are also nominated for Cannabis News Reporter of the Year in the form of the PakaBlog that you are currently reading.  We couldn’t believe that our humble little blog earned a nomination alongside such awesome real life journalists as DJ Summers, Whitney Branshaw, Laurel Andrews and Fairbanks own, Sarah Dubowski from Channel 11, not to mention everyone’s favorite podcast, Far North Tokers with Mid Toker.  All of these are amazing journalists/reporters/broadcasters that have worked alongside the industry to keep the Alaskan people informed.  Ever since our opening day, we have strived to stay in touch with our customers.  This industry took off like a rocket, but as you all know there were bumps in the road and setbacks for the entire industry.  This made it extremely important for us to cut out the middle man and get information about what is going on behind the scenes at our shop and as a new industry as a whole straight from us to you.  We weren’t sure if anyone would read it, but decided to put the info out there.  It really feels good to get recognized for your hard work especially when you weren’t suspecting it.  We have grown a following of those who like to check back regularly and check out what is new in our world of cannabis and we wouldn’t have it any other way.  We are glad that what we give you to read is worth your time and it’s shown by the nomination.  Mahalo! However, before we were nominated we were actually pushing for a great experienced (actual) reporter here in Fairbanks that works for KTVF-11 to win Best Cannabis Reporter.  Sarah Dubowski has reported on cannabis industry news throughout the last couple years through the legalization process, all while following nearly every non cannabis story in Fairbanks simultaneously.  She has reported on all the different facets ranging from the setbacks and the successes of individual cannabusinesses such as ours to the latest information from the Marijuana Control Board, Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly, Fairbanks City Council or wherever else the local happenings take her.  Her stories are reported to the whole town of Fairbanks on Channel 11 each night and cannabis is only one very small part of all the news brought to the Fairbanks community by our friend.  Thanks Sarah we have already put our vote in for you! (sorry Whitney, Laurel, Mid, DJ, et al, but we know Anchorage has your back, us folks up North have to stick together to survive!)

As you can probably tell we are very pumped about the Cannabis Classic.  It is something that helps to cement the normalization of retail marijuana and we are more than happy to be able to play such a big roll in it. Once again thank you for all your support and we will continue to drop news here on the PakaBlog and our social media outlets as well.  We hope to see some of you down at the Classic on May 20 because it is going to be a pivotal moment in the history of cannabis in Alaska. Don’t forget that you can go vote for the Cannabis Classic Industry Awards daily at so go vote often so we can bring some hardware home!  Thanks for stopping by da PakaBlog. Mahalo!

Strain Drop Saturday!

Greetings and salutations PakaBloggers.  In case you didn’t notice (yeah right) its 45 degrees today in Fairbanks.  That is positive 45 which is around 80 degrees warmer than what it was just over a month ago, and boy does it feel good!  Obviously you are not here for the weather so lets jump right in to this week’s update.

Tomorrow marks the first official “Strain Drop Saturday” where we will be releasing a new strain or product for purchase at Pakalolo Supply Company.  In fact, this week we are doing both a new strain and a new product! We got the idea from last Saturday when we released the Incredible Edible Kit.  I’ll tell you a little about this magical kit just in case you haven’t seen or heard about it yet. Considering the edibles market has been so awful thus far and Fairbanks has really made it clear that they are ready for them, we were forced to do some outside the box thinking to serve you better on this front.  We took one of the great ideas that we were able to come up with in the box-less abyss and packed into a both elegant and wondrous box that is full of edible potential for only $125. The edible kit contains everything you need in a reusable high quality box that will allow you make 12-18 cannabis infused coconut oil that can go directly into the Hawaiian Hula Cookies mix at a potency that is right for you.  Hula cookies come in 8 different flavors and believe us when we tell you these cookies are soooo ONO! (delicious)

As always we encourage the mantra Start Low & Go Slow.

Another awesome new product will be hitting the shelves this weekend for your smoking pleasure.  In a previous post I mentioned we would have something that was kind of on the high roller/lavish side.  This is what you want to bring to with you to go celebrate whether it be an event, a holiday or even just the weekend.  Introducing the Pakalolo Palms….

Pakalolo Palms are King Palms organic palm leaf wraps, which are made from actual palm tree leaves with a corn cob crutch in the mouth piece that filters and cools down the smoke as you pull it through, packed to the brim of our highest quality, most tasty strains we have ever grown here at our own cultivation.  Some of these strains are some that you will recognize. However, you may see private reserve strains or phenotypes that tested much higher in THC, CBD and/or terpenes.  Only our finest flower goes into these handcrafted palm cigars (blunts)  They come in reusable glass tubes with a cork stopper as you can see in the image above.  Tomorrow we will have Pakalolo Palms with 30% THC Headband, 20% Cluster Bomb,  and 20% Northern Lights Let me tell you from experience that Pakalolo Palms get ‘er done!  The palm tree leaves add no extra flavor so you can taste the highest terpene flower in the state.  They burn evenly and smoothly as the smoke is spread and cooled through the corn cob crutch.  But don’t take my word for it, come and burn a Pakalolo Palm for yourself and get a free palms post card of the graphic seen above for free. We are also releasing a new strain from Alaska Cannabis Cultivators tomorrow.  Strawberry Banana Sherbert coming in at 23.77% THC.  The Leafly description is as follows :

“Strawberry Banana is a 70/30 indica-dominant cannabis strain developed by DNA Genetics in collaboration with Serious Seeds. A genetic cross between Crockett’s Banana Kush and the “Strawberry” phenotype of Bubble Gum, Strawberry Banana inherits a sweet fruity flavor that earned this hybrid her name. Known for its heavy resin production and high THC content, Strawberry Banana produces happy, peaceful effects that sharpen creativity and sensory awareness.”

In other news,  Pakalolo Supply Company is officially the presenting sponsor of the Alaska Cannabis Classic!  You can read more about it here.  We are very excited about the largest cannabis event in Alaska, taking place down in Anchorage May 20-21.  We are making big plans for this weekend to say the least 😉 We will have all the details about the Cannabis Classic and our plans for the big show in a blog post early next week.

That’s it for this week ladies and gentlemen but stay tuned as we will have another post about terpenes as well as one about the cannabis classic very soon. We hope to see you for the first Strain Drop Saturday here at Pakalolo supply Company. Mahalo!

It’s Springtime…

And Terpenes Are In the Air!

Aloha friends! Long time no blog.  We apologize for the unexpected lack of a post last week.  Fortunately, I can assure you we put that energy into upgrades and preparations as we ramp up for the first Alaska summer with legal cannabis!  As spring time fast approaches in Fairbanks you can always feel the resulting spring in the people’s step.  That spring is approximately 50% relief that the 6 months of cold and darkness is finally over and 50% anticipation of the amazing summers we are blessed with every year as residents of Alaska.  I feel like there is an extra boost of eagerness this year and spring hasn’t even really started yet.  My guess is that it has something to do with a new industry that generates an easily measurable degree of interest and excitement (and tax dollars to help our city and state). Summer will ignite that industry with a dab torch!  We will start to see the full potential of what legal cannabis has to offer and the positive effects it can have on so many different levels such as generating tax revenue for our City and State and driving tourism to boost the local economy.  From the recreational perspective, we will start to see higher quality bud and new types of products in the retail shops such as ours.  There will be more events such as the Cannabis Classic (we’ll get to this early next week right here on the PakaBlog) that support the growth of the industry.  C’mon summer hurry it up already!

Oh and speaking of new products, we got more than one of those up our sleeve that you could possibly be seeing very soon.  We have been putting in a lot of thought into bringing you marijuana in new and unique ways that provide convenience, sharability, value or even a little bit of lavishness in some upcoming products.  We want to present these products in cool new ways that will continue to push forward our goal of normalizing cannabis in our community to be treated as an adult choice to be made for a variety of reasons.  You should be hearing more about these products next week.  Here’s a little sneak peak at one of them…. 😉

Onto an exciting update from Pakalolo cultivation! The hard work and extra effort that our team puts into combining feeding techniques found in Korean Natural Farming (KNF) with no-till farming is really starting to pay huge dividends in the form of quality in our cannabis. It just keeps getting better and better! This can be shown by our amazing high terpene results found from our latest harvest of Alaskan Blueberry. Let’s take a little closer look at terpenes…

Terpenes, created by the same glands in marijuana that make THC and CBD, are fragrant oils that give different strains their individual smell and flavor. Terpenes give strains like Blueberry the blueberry smell and taste and Sour Diesel its pungent gasoline like funk. Terpenes are also what makes natural essential oils such as lavender and eucalyptus their smells that can be diffused to fill a room. More recent, and much more interesting studies are starting to show the effect the terpenes have on your mood and how you actually feel as they interact with cannabinoids and your brain chemistry. does a great job of explaining it:

“Terpenes interact with the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to cannabinoids. When inhaled or ingested, the terpenes act as an assistant to cannabinoids as they work to penetrate the blood-brain barrier. Myrcene, for example, is known to increase cell permeability allowing for faster absorption of THC and other cannabinoids.

Terpenes can also influence neurotransmitters in the brain. For example they can affect dopamine and serotonin production and destruction. This insight gives us an idea of why different strains not only smell and taste different, but also have different affects on our mood or high sensation. Limonene, another common terpene found in cannabis, can increase serotonin production thus elevating your mood.”

Terpenes are highest in marijuana that is grown more naturally such as in soil with naturally occurring nutrients and giving the plants the ability to take in exactly what it wants and needs to grow healthy and create the highest quality final product. Our plants live in the same bed their entire life consuming nutrients through fermented fruit and vegetable juices and oriental herbal nutrients (OHN) that we make right here from items found in a quick grocery store trip to the organic section. What we are trying to do is create a grow medium for our plants that is basically a small ecosystem chalk full of organic food for the plants. Using these amazing natural grow methods our Alaskan Blueberry has some of the highest terpenes in the state! The AK Blueberry from this harvest is just covered in frost (trichomes full of THC, CBD and terpenes) and has a deliciously sweet and pungent smell with notes of sour and taste similar to a handful of half big sweet/half small tart blueberries. The delicious smell is made up of different terpenes. Below is an image of the flower and its terpene profile:

I know, I know you are probably asking yourself, “What the heck does this mean?” Well let us, or Leafly I should say, give you a hand with figuring some of that out. The terpene that has the highest percentage in our AK Blueberry is Myrcene so well start with that.  The following is taken from a Leafly article describing the proven effects that naturally occurring terpenes have:

Smell: Musky, cloves, earthy, herbal with notes of citrus and tropical fruit.
Effects: Relaxation, comfort
Associated effects in body: Antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic; good for muscle tension, pain, insomnia, depression.
Also Found In: Mango, lemongrass, thyme, hops.

Smell: Floral, citrus, candy, sweet
Effects: Anxiety relief, sedative qualities
Associated effects in body: Anti-anxiety, anti-convulsant, anti-depressant, acne treatment
Also Found In: Lavender

Smell: Citrus
Effects: Elevated mood and stress relief
Associated effects in body: Anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, heartburn, depression
Also Found In: Fruit rinds, rosemary, juniper, peppermint”

Isn’t it simply amazing what cannabis, a little natural growing plant in this endless universe, has to offer us?!  On top of the benefits of terpenes, it is extremely cool just to have access to this information when purchasing a specific strain. You will know exactly what to expect based on some scientific data based off the compounds as well as your nose and your taste buds. The way that terpenes are smelled, tasted and interpreted in cannabis is the exact same as a  wine connoisseur determining quality, depth of flavor, region, and vintage of the wine they are tasting and smelling. This is what we mean when we say our goal is normalizing the marijuana industry. We want you to be as educated as possible and feel like a master cannabis connoisseur when coming to purchase the finest at Pakalolo Supply Company. Going forward we will begin to test the the terpene profiles of our “Pakalolo Grown” strains, so that when you go home to kick-back, relax and smoke you will have a good idea of how the marijuana can effect your brain chemistry and in turn, your mood and how you feel. Our favorite thing about the terpenes is definitely that those itty bitty little natural compounds make the buds smell and taste so000 ono! (delicious)

That’s all we got for you PakaBloggers today. We are working on adding a section to our website to include recent terpene profiles of our strains when the rest of the results come back from testing soon. Next week we will have some new product reveals that we are anxious to share with you. We will also be discussing the Cannabis Classic and how to nominate/vote on your favorite cannabis retail related awards so check back soon. We hope you made it into Pakalolo this weekend to get your hands on some of the latest “Pakalolo Grown” harvest while it lasts. See you next time, mahalo!

Bonus Blog for Brand New Buds

Aloha Fairbanks! We are back for the second day in a row with another amazing dose of incoming product news.  We are more than pleased to announce another exciting collaboration with a Fairbanks cultivation company, :Alaska Cannabis Cultivators.  Branden Roybal, a local hard-working carpenter who own and runs ACC, has a goal to support the local Fairbanks market exclusively. We are very grateful for Roybal’s decision to keep it local and help our city become the cannabis capital of Alaska.  We believe his contribution to Fairbanks’ market, in addition to upcoming harvests (getting cut down as we speak) from our own cultivation and Einstein Labs’ concentrates, will provide the consistent flow of marijuana product in our retail store that will allow us begin expanding back to our original hours while maintaining a varied selection with a healthy back stock.

Mr. Roybal had previous experience growing marijuana as a hobby, so let us be the first to vouch for his product by saying that his hobby has definitely paid off!  His flower is grown using a soil-less medium and hydroponics style watering system.  We received our first batch of Alaska Cannabis Cultivators’ high quality product last night and have it on our shelves today. He unloaded two different strains on us of some very pretty, hand trimmed bud, completely covered in trichomes.

The first of those two strains is Snow White coming in at 24.23% THC and 0.06% CBD. The description from Leafly is as follows:

“Snow White is a 65/35 indica/sativa hybrid. Early and abundant resin production is attributed to her White Widow mother.  Flowering finishes in a standard 60 to 70 days from start and provides a nice balanced and steady high.”

The other strain is Afgooey is hitting at 21.62% THC and 0.06% CBD.  Leafly’s description:

“A potent indica strain that is believed to descend from an Afghani indica and Maui Haze. Its sativa parent may lend Afgoo some uplifting, creative qualities, but this strain undoubtedly takes after its indica parent as it primarily delivers relaxing, sleepy effects alongside its earthy pine flavor.”

That’s it for this week PakaBloggers but expect this type of product news to become more and more regular as the industry continues to grow.  Hope to see you today or tomorrow to try out Alaska Cannabis Cultivators’ beautiful buds or Einstein Labs’ potent concentrates. Check out our full menu on and don’t forget to check back on the PakaBlog next week.  Mahalo!

It’s Time To Concentrate

Howzit Fairbanks?  We have got a fun update for you this time around. Tomorrow we will have some new products on our shelves thanks to Einstein Labs down in Anchorage.  In doing so will mark the first time a retail store in Fairbanks will have legal cannabis concentrates for sale.  Many of you have been patiently waiting for this moment (as have we) and we are very happy to be able to tell you that there is only 1 more day until that moment finally arrives… Huzzah!

Cannabis concentrates is a wide-ranging term that refers to a number of different products: hash, oil, wax, shatter, etc.  However, all concentrates are manufactured similarly by stripping the cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, off the plant through the use of solvents such as CO2, butane and ethanol (even ice water can be used in the extraction process of making hash).  Afterwards the solvents are purged from the product through the use of heat, pressure and evaporation leaving you with a product of various different consistencies of concentrated cannabinoids (THC and CBD).  Oh and don’t worry, being that all marijuana product in Alaska is tested, any concentrates are guaranteed to be purged of any solvents to a safe level for consumption.

Over the last ten years concentrates have quickly grown to being one of the most common ways to indulge in cannabinoids for many reasons. First, there are implied health advantages when it comes to concentrates. They are easily heated to the temperature that they vaporizes at (284 degrees farenheit) so that it can be inhaled to get the desired effect. Vaporizing is comparable to water evaporating.  No combustion (burning) is taking place, which means you’ll be inhaling vapor instead of smoke which is often smoother, more efficient and even tastier than traditional smoke. Another advantage is that they do not leave a lasting odor as smoke does. Therefore people like them for their home because they can vaporize all day without leaving that ganja smell for those of you who wish to remain stealthy. 🙂  Concentrates also have a level of convenience that people enjoy. By having a vape pen loaded with concentrates you have everything you need.  You can simply pull it our of your pocket, take a pull and you are good to go versus carrying around some marijuana, a pipe and a lighter where you must load, light, cash and repeat each time you want to smoke. Due to the ease and quickness of use people love them for outdoor activities, such as hiking or snowboarding, when loading up a pipe and trying to keep a lighter lit just isn’t a viable option. Those who desire only CBD appreciate concentrates as well because they can purchase concentrates that isolate the CBD so there are no psychoactive effects from THC. We don’t have CBD concentrates at the moment but they will inevitably make their way into our store sometime in the near future. Concentrates are now being widely used for cooking/baking edibles too. Using a concentrate with a high THC percentage makes dosing much simpler as can be read about here. Annnnd the list goes on but I’m sure you understand why cannabis concentrates have become so popular so I’ll stop blabbing in excitement… Let’s get to revealing those new products!

We are very delighted to be working with Justin Roland and the rest of the Einstein Labs team down in Anchorage, AK.  We were able to go visit their facility last month and we were blown away by the way they are building their business.  To put it simply, they are doing it right!  We all knew right away we could make big things happen by putting our heads together. So we did, and the first of those big things is providing concentrates to the people of Fairbanks. Mr. Roland is personally, and graciously, traveling to Fairbanks this week with some of their awesome products. On Friday we will have a limited amount of shatter.  Shatter is Butane Hash Oil (BHO) that acts similar to a sheet of brittle glass in its stable form.  It is easily broken, or shattered, at cooler temperatures into smaller pieces for smoking, whether to take a dab or load into a vaporizer.

Fun Fact: The word dab is sort of dynamic as it can be used in multiple ways.  People use it to refer to concentrates in general or a specific amount of concentrates. However,  earlier I was referring to a specific process of consuming concentrates.  “Taking a dab,” involves touching a predetermined amount of concentrates to a surface that is heated enough to vaporize it instantly in its entirety so that it may be inhaled (one dab’ll do ya)

Einstein Labs will also be bringing E * Blunt pre-loaded vaporizer pens ( filled with their own 47% THC cannabis concentrate oil.  E * Blunt, also an Alaskan company, manufactures vaporizer pens that are infused with flavors made from natural terpenes. We have Tropical Punch and Mango flavored Slims as can be seen below.   We know these products are going to be a great addition to our store and we are eager to see how everyone responds to them. But be on the lookout! further down the line Einstein Labs will be providing us with edibles to sell in our store as well.  The first of which will be something called Leaf Chews.  Leaf Chews are similar to Starbursts and are infused with CO2 hash oil!  Those should be in store in the next few weeks. We will keep you updated as that time comes closer.

Thanks for hangin’at the PakaBlog friends! We will be open Friday 3pm to 8pm and Saturday noon to 6, as usual. Check out to see our full menu and location, and don’t forget to check back on the PakaBlog for updates.  See you all this weekend. Mahalo!
